Pokemon Afghan Project

I don’t want anyone to think that I am abandoning the site or slacking or anything because of lack of blog posts. That’s not the case. Sadly, in the world of WordPress, static pages don’t count as entries. I really want my patterns to be static pages just for ease of organization. Anyway, I have said a number of times that I don’t consider myself a designer. Well, I just went and screwed that up.

I had, what I thought, was a passing thought of making an applique granny square afghan of Pokemon. That idea kept nagging at me (I hate my brain) and now it’s turned into kind of an obsession…

I am on day 3 or 4 of this project and I really need to get more granny squares made. Anyone that wants to make them for me I will pay in chocolate… A “normal” person would have made all the blank squares before starting on the appliques, but no, not me. I’m doing them at the same time, but I digress.

Pokemon appliques for an afghan. The idea was inspired by the Woodland Afghan by Maria over at Maria’s Blue Crayon. She’s currently doing a Christmas afghan crochet along.

So far there are three squares done: Magikarp, Oddish, and Luvdisc. I am going for 30 different Pokemon for this afghan. Out of 720 total Pokemon, I am sure I can come up with 30 that will make up nicely for a 7 inch square. I am picking Pokemon based on ease of getting them between 5 and 6 inches and maintaining most of the detail. I am hoping to get one done every day to every day to every other day. My goal is to have this project finished somewhere between the end of October and the first full week of November. I was trying to put off working on it until I had my holiday crochet projects done, but that didn’t happen. We will see if I make this goal. Crochet gods willing, I will.

For anyone who is interested, each of the applique patterns are going up for free on the website. You can find all the details of the afghan, including the square list with links, HERE. Once everything is done I will be compiling all the patterns into a neat PDF that I will be putting up for sale.

I suppose, you could call this a Mystery Pokemon Crochet Along so come join me. Gotta stitch them all (or at least 30 of them)…
