Such a unique title, I know. It evokes boredom. I can’t promise that a general blog post with updates and general randomness is ever going to be interesting.
First thing is first. I need to apologize profusely for the spam that was went out today via everything from the feed to all the social sites. When I updated the website I installed the theme demo, where the site would look like it did in the demo. This WordPress feature is supposed to make things easy for people who don’t know what they are doing. I had no idea that the site was going to propagate the sample articles from the theme demo to everywhere. I have gotten everything deleted from most of the social sites. Again, I apologize. That won’t happen again.
Hopefully the new theme and it’s organization will make the inconvenience worth it. I’ve never seen anyone use a magazine layout for a crochet blog before, so we shall see how it goes. I like that all the categories are separated out so people can find what they are looking for.
As a side thing, as I was editing categories for the new theme, I realized that I have done two round ups on bookmarks. I didn’t look to see if I featured any of the same bookmarks, but I have made a note not to do another bookmark round up for a while.
I have added a stitch catalog page to the site of tutorials that I have used. If anyone has any good tutorials for different stitches please send them my way and I will list them. You can use another new feature of the site to do so, the contact form. Are we excited yet? Yea, I didn’t think so.
Some of you may have already seen this guy on Instagram. He’s gotten 32 likes already. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, but it’s the most likes I have gotten on an Instagram post. I’m still getting used to using the platform. The crochet pattern came from Amigurumi Monsters (affiliate link). I will be reviewing this book later in the week. Anyway, my monster over here has a few problems, like his feet are sewn on too far back and the fact that I need to remember to compensate an additional stitch when changing colours in a round on things like eyeballs. It’s all minor stuff that I know how to fix. Speaking of minor problems, does anyone have a tutorial or website or something that they recommend for doing embroidery on crochet items? It’s always going to be a pet peeve of mine that no one ever tells you in a pattern how they went about doing this. It’s really something I need practice with and would love to know the techniques that other people use.
I did use my new camera to take the picture, I just need to find the idea settings on it. It’s going to be a bit of trial and error, but at least I’ve moved up from cell phone photos. XD
I would like to offer up stuffed monsters in my shop – I mean, not everyone who may want these crochets – but the copyright in the book states “no commercial use”. I am really conflicted on this but that’s another blog post all together that I may do at some time. In every community there are people who do things that are questionable at best and no one blinks. Someone else makes a faux pas and are sent to the guillotine for a time out.
I figured out what I was doing wrong – or at least one of the things I was doing wrong – with the Tidal Wave Shawl. I started working on it using Sugar ‘n Cream yarn rather than keep abusing the wool. I really didn’t like how the yarn was splitting after I made the stitches. I have never seen yarn do that before so that was weird. I am now thinking I want to pick up different coloured yarn for shawl.
Speaking of shawls, there is one that I want to make up and put in the shop. The ‘issue’ is that it uses Caron Cakes. Translated: acrylic yarn. I have looked high and low and can’t find any sort of cake yarn that comes in a natural fiber. The thing is, with these cake yarns, part of what makes the items made from them look so awesome is the colour combinations. Looks like I am going to have to suck this one up.
This adorable hedgehog is from Spin A Yarn. She has a number of super adorable animal patterns up in this style. I am going to start making some of them up with blanket yarn to create pillows. I really think they would make awesome pillows. Everyone that knows me knows I need like 100 more pillows on my bed, especially after rolling over in my sleep and smashing my face on the bed frame and breaking my nose this past week. That was fun. My eyes watered for two days and I couldn’t see to do a lot because of it.
So, that’s my random Monday blog. The blogging schedule will get back on track this week. Let me know what you guys think of the new blog theme.
