You seen the title and thought, “I don’t want any kind of virus! What is wrong with her?” Don’t deny it. But you do! Well, some of you do. The science geeky types want cute squishable crochet viruses.
Sometime back Think Geek started selling these plush microbes from Giant Microbes and believe it or not, they are actually quite popular. It’s no wonder that many of them have been turned into crochet patterns. They make awesome gifts for doctors, nurses, scientists, and geeks/nerds. The Soft Scientist, over on Etsy, is the genius behind the patterns.
My primary care doctor is really quite a cool guy. He’s also very knowledgeable. Probably the best doctor I have had in my life. If there was anyone who needed crocheted viruses, it was him. I knew he would also appreciate them. So I set to work and make up 13 of them.
E. Coli, Strep, Woophing Cough, Botulism, Food Poisoning, Flu
Common Cold, Staph, Salmonella, HIV, Chicken Pox/Shingles, TB
I had no idea just how appreciative he was going to be.
We are talking fanboy appreciative. He told me this is the best present anyone has ever given him and that he was going to put a display in the office for them. I heard him wandering around the office showing them to everyone. His lab tech told me this was the sort of thing no one else would come up with to give him because people normall give doctors gifts like a bottle of wine or cookies.
You know, I like his new lab tech. Maybe I should make her some blood cells…
